I am excited to have the unique opportunity to curate and take part in the group show VIVA LA VIDA at London’s HUNDRED YEARS GALLERY, 20-22 October 2023. This touring show includes 4 international artists from as far afield as Cuba, Switzerland and Germany. The exhibition opens Friday afternoon, 20th October from 2pm - 6:30pm and continues over the weekend (opening times below). It would be wonderful to meet you there and catch up. VIVA LA VIDA depicts life experiences from the perspective of a group of seasoned and established artists. Sometimes profound, sometimes mystical, but often humorous and satirical, the exhibition gives fresh insights into an international mix of cultural backgrounds. The artists present the potential of creating art as a way of life, which, as history shows, can profit from a significant boost in later years. About the artists... Alfredo Martirena - Cuba Alfredo Martirena Hernandez was born in Cuba in 1965. In 1984 he started working for the humor newspaper Melaito and in 1986 and won the “25 años de humor en Palante” competition. In 1987 he published his first book and then participated in 10 collective works, inc. Fumetty a Cuba, a collaboration with twenty contemporary cartoonists of the Cuban press. As a press illustrator, Martinera has worked with several national newspapers, such as Juventud Rebelde, Bohemian Magazine, Palante, Tribuna de la Habana, and also with international papers such as Mexico’s El Jueves, the Periódico Diagonal from Spain, Nicaragua's Nuevo Diario and the American witty world. Martirena has exhibited in numerous countries especially in Europe: CH, NL, GB, E. www.martirena.com Daniela Flörsheim - Germany Born in Düsseldorf, studied fine arts at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and Hebrew at the University of Jerusalem, literature and languages at the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. Her art is shown worldwide: in 2017 at the European Cultural Center, the Venice Art Biennale / in 2019 she took part in the “Rationale 4 BAUHAUS” and in 2021 “No Boredom in Paradise” at the Women's Museum in Bonn. She previously presented at Jehangir Gallery, Mumbai, India; FIFA World Cup Flag Art Festival, Seoul, South Korea and the Ronald Feldman Gallery in SoHo, New York. In 2023 she will be exhibiting at the famous Duisburg Accents and in Munich at the big “Flower Power Festival Munich”. www.danielafloersheim.com Bettina Schroeder - UK Born in Germany, Bettina moved to London in 1982. Her multimedia practise includes painting, installations, music, poetry and video. She has exhibited in Britain, Europe and USA, and performs at events throughout Europe.
